Computer acts strange after sitting overnight
Modified By dalel on 10/15/2009 2:02:04 PM)

My home computer when left alone overnight seems to want to freeze up or run really slow the next day. Parts of windows don't show up, programs won't run, it doesn't even show a error message. What would cause this? Is my data in danger?

Re: Computer acts strange after sitting overnight

Rhoss,

At a glance I suspect a power management problem.  I would disable the hibernation features that are built into Windows or apply this Microsoft "Hot Fix" to your computer.  This addresses problems where more than 1GB of memory is installed in the computer.

There have been many problems with the hibernation features over the years and to be brief, a percentage of pc's simply don't wake up properly.   I have never seen a loss of information due to this problem, but I can see how it is certainly possible depending on the circumstances to lose information that was in memory at the time of the failed hibernation.

A reboot should resolve the problem if it doesn't wake properly as well.

Thak you so much for your speedy response, this is a great feature on your site. I will try the things you suggest. If I still have a problem, is it possible for you to fix it without me bringing it in?
